Tales of 75

Scott and I have been making the 8-hour trek down I-75 to Sarasota Florida to visit his family for almost 15 years. Scott does the majority of the driving which allows me plenty of time for observation.

We have recently returned from a trip down there and again, I notice the same things, over and over. Here are some of my thoughts.

Some of the best drivers hail from Ohio...those folks from Tennessee, not so much.

On the North or South side of Gainesville Florida you are guaranteed some sort of traffic nightmare. We have encountered fires, overturned vehicles of all shapes and sizes, along with sitting for extended periods of time and once we start moving and arrive at "the scene" there is nothing. Absolutely nothing. Another reason not to like anything, I mean anything, from Gainesville Florida.

The majority of trucks on the road, not 18-wheelers, just normal trucks, are good drivers. Especially some sort of work truck, they know how to drive. Now, pimped-up Escalades or trucks that have never had mud splashed on them, these guys (or gals) do not know how to drive. They hang out in the fast lane and do not pass...

Okay the fast lane. Listen up people. This lane is for passing. Please read that again. The fast lane is for passing, fast. Not cruising, or chillin' or setting cruise on 73 and forgetting that other people in the world exist. Get in that lane to get around someone else, go fast to pass, then get back over. Are the other 2 lanes full of motor homes and '73 station wagons with the paneling down the side? Then stay in the fast lane, going fast, then as soon as you pass the slow pokes, get back in the middle lane.

Did you know you can log onto ChickFilA's website and map out your trip showing you all their restaurants along the way? How cool is that? Not only is it the Cadillac of junk food, they have clean potty's as well.

However, if you're driving on a Sunday, Steak-n-Shake are a nice alternative. Their breakfast is worth a drive-thru!

There are 2 specific areas of this trip where no matter what lane you are in, everyone drives at break-neck speeds. When heading North, the miles between McDonough and 285 are insane. Even the folks in the fast lane are driving over 80mph.

The other area, when heading South, between Tampa and Sarasota. Again, out of control speeding. It's really unbelievable.

And honestly, in both these instances, we are within spittin' distance of our final destination, be it our home or Scott's parents home, that we jump right into the unlawful behavior.

One more point having absolutely nothing to do with this post. Seeing that it's Sunday night and we are of course watching, Sunday Night Football, I think Andrea Kramer is a fantastic sideline reporter. You can tell she does her homework. She doesn't stutter all over herself, nor does she ask idiotic questions. I've never seen her reporting and thought, "Oh dear, management must have needed another check-mark in the female column to have hired her". Nope, quite the contrary, I actually think she knows what she's talking about. And she has a gorgeous wedding ring set to boot. Go Andrea!

Disclaimer - Scott assured me that "pimpin' " wasn't a bad word.

This has been Lisa Inlow, reporting. (Yes, I'm aware that was a bit cheesy.)

This post cracks me up. We had to get off 75 a whole lot earlier than normal because of all the traffic Saturday!

Haha, my DH always has a heyday with the drivers in certain states. It's true, they don't know what the passing lane is for! He's a bit of an aggressive driver (okay, he's very aggressive - there's a reason I went into labor 3 times out of 4 while driving in the city with him), but he's courteous. If someone comes up behind, he moves over as soon as possible. Even if he has to pull in behind a slower driver to do it. We once had a lady stick right on our tail for miles driving through Tennessee because he got the job done. When she finally turned off, she waved to us and smiled. A thankyou for getting her there quicker and for "clearing the way". Nice. Some Calgary drivers wave too - just with one finger. Alberta roads are getting worse for side-by-side drivers. So annoying. ;)
Anyway, it was a funny 'report' and one I could definitely relate to, considering how many road trips we've done!
Have a good Christmas Lisa!
